Menswear-Inspired Fabrics: Tweed

Menswear-Inspired Fabrics: Tweed by theclosetbychristie featuring a knee length full skirt

When I think of a classic, preppy look the first thing that comes to mind is… tweed! This is our next menswear-inspired fabric that has reached popularity for Fall/Winter 2013. With its rough unfinished look, tweed is the epitome of shabby chic. It’s a very durable fabric that is ideal for outerwear and has a “homespun” appearance. (Wikipedia) I’ve always loved tweed, so I’m excited that it’s now at the trend forefront!
In the above set, I featured a brown-tone Stella Jean tweed midi skirt. I love this skirt because it’s so feminine! It has an a-line silhouette, making it flattering for almost any body type and the midi-length is modest, yet stylish. I paired the skirt with a geometric-style plaid Marni blouse and a tan See by Chloe oversized peacoat. I adore the color palette because it’s such a perfect combination of deep and bright hues, making it appropriate for the colder seasons and so eye-catching! I accessorized with an oxblood leather satchel and bright yellow J.Crew suede tassel loafers. For jewelry, I chose Baublebar crystal drop earrings and a gold Banana Republic braided bangle.
Do you love tweed? How would you style it?
