DIY ‘Scream Queens’ Halloween Costumes
As we’re leading up to Halloween, I’m sure you’re all thinking about what you’ll dress up as. I’m not a fan of the classic ‘Halloween store’ costume, as I find them overpriced and I don’t want to look like everyone else. I approach Halloween, like any other occasion, as a fashionable affair! For instance, last year I was a vampire just as an excuse to wear dark lipstick.
Sometimes I choose a classic costume like a flapper and other times I turn to pop-culture for inspiration. That being said, the new hit Scream Queens is the perfect inspiration for a group Halloween costume! The show is popular enough that people know it, yet it’s new enough where it might be an original idea. Plus, the fashion is beautiful!
If you’ve been following along with the new Fall TV line-up, then you’ve likely checked out the show. I was really looking forward to the premiere and with its all-star cast- Emma Roberts, Ariana Grande, Abigail Breslin, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the list goes on- plus the genius Glee writer, Ryan Murphy, it has all of the ‘players’ to be a great show. So
far, the show has been Mean Girls meets Glee and Pretty Little Liars. I
love all 3 of those shows, but I’m not so sure they mesh well together.
The dark plot combined with the ‘Glee-like’ humor makes it hard for me to take seriously. One element the show hasn’t let us down with is the top-notch fashion!

CHANEL OBERLIN
Created by theclosetbychristie on Polyvore
Chanel Oberlin, played by Emma Roberts, is the head b**ch in charge! She’s bossy, beautiful, and fabulous- the ultimate mean girl that we love to hate. Because the other Chanels are her ‘minions,’ the original Chanel’s costume has got to be just a little bit more fabulous than the others. For this look, I went for a timeless style that’s both glamorous and pretty damn fancy.
1- Topshop Structured Lace Skater Dress // 2- Modcloth Short Symphonic State of Mind Cape // 3- Henri Bendel Gramercy Park Earrings // 4- House of Harlow Geodesic Cocktail Ring // 5- Charming Charlie Bouquet Ring // 6- The Limited 5-Strand Beaded Bracelet // 7- Aldo Blush Chain-Strap Purse // 8- Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Colour // 9- Miss Selfridge Nude Snake Court Pumps

CHANEL #3

Chanel #3, played by Billie Lourd, is a bit more quirky than the others but nonetheless trendy and fabulous. She almost always wears faux fur earmuffs, so I was sure to include a faux fur headband in this look. We’ve also got our pretty pastels and lots of glamorous jewelry!
1- Chicwish Breezy Shift Dress // 2- Topshop Diamond Stitch Pullover Cape // 3- bebe Scrolled Bib Necklace // 4- Semilla Turquoise Green Pumps // 5- Eddie Borgo Pyramid Studs // 6- House of Harlow Gold Plated Triangle Cocktail Ring // 7- River Island Gold Flecked Cocktail Ring // 8- Stella & Dot Zinnia Split Ring // 9- Accessorize Metal Bar Envelope Clutch // 10- Dorothy Perkins Mink Faux Fur Headband // 11- H&M iPhone Case

CHANEL #5
Created by theclosetbychristie on Polyvore
Chanel #5, played by Abigail Breslin, seems to be a pretty close clone to the original Chanel. She has a mind of her own and isn’t afraid to challenge the group’s leader. Her style is also a little quirky and she’s most likely to rebel by adding brighter colors to her look. She recently wore a kitten ear headband, so I sort of built the look around that. I added a big brighter-than-pastel faux fur jacket and included some lace and pearls throughout the look.
1- Charlotte Russe Pearl Cat Ears Headband // 2- JunaRose Textured Faux Fur Coat, Lord & Taylor // 3- BaubleBar Freesia Collar Necklace // 4- Topshop Gallop Patent Court Heels // 5- Rebecca Minkoff ‘Leo’ Perforated Envelope Clutch // 6- Banana Republic Metal Mashup Pearl Studs // 7- Blush Cocktail Ring // 8- Topshop Fluted Sleeve Lace Dress

RED DEVIL
Created by theclosetbychristie on Polyvore
Ok, so who doesn’t want to be the villain every once in a while? Whether it’s Regina from Mean Girls or a vicious zombie that’s your cup of tea, there’s a teeny bit of ‘bad’ in everyone. And even if there isn’t, it’s fun to play the part! Why not explore that for Halloween? It wouldn’t be a Scream Queen group without the red devil.
For this look, I went with a sexy jumpsuit, simple red clutch and heels, and of course, the devil horn headband. I find it completely necessary to incorporate major statement jewelry, so I didn’t hold back here!
1- ASOS Devil Headband // 2- Rebecca Minkoff Leo Clutch // 3- Steve Madden ‘Varcityy’ Suede Pointed Toe Pumps // 4- BaubleBar Acid Fringe Necklace // 5- House of Harlow Gold-Tone Black Bar Ring // 6- House of Harlow Illuminating Rectangle Ring // 7- Banana Republic Double Pyramid Earring // 8- ASOS Tailored Jumpsuit

I've never actually "bought" a costume either! I tend to gravitate towards homemade, since that's how it's always been done at my house.
These are some really great ideas – especially the first one!

I love this! Scream Queens is so funny and I like how over the top it is! It is hard to mesh the horror with the humor, but I still think it kind of works.
