Ankle Strap Flats
As with any trend, there’s always different styles and ways of wearing the look. At first- I admit- I wasn’t too crazy about this trend. I’m only 5’0″, so I tend to not wear any type of shoe with an ankle strap. A tight ankle strap will actually cut off the silhouette of your leg and make you appear shorter than you are. I don’t need to look any shorter than I am, so I prefer to elongate my leg with a pointed-toe shoe. But as with any trend, you have to pick and choose what will work for you. The key to wearing this trend for me is to choose a strap that’s a little loose. If it’s loose, it will dangle a bit and won’t have the shortening effect.
In the above set, I featured a nude ballet flat with a gold jeweled ankle strap. I really love this particular shoe because the ankle strap doubles as jewelry! It will also dangle like a bracelet does, so it won’t cut off your leg silhouette. What a great flattering shoe! These flats will look amazing with a dress, skirt, cropped jeans, or shorts; anything that shows off that ankle.
I paired the flats with a nude floral photorealism belted dress. I LOVE this dress because it’s a classic silhouette that actually looks like it was painted on with acrylics. It’s like wearing canvas art! I accessorized with a canary yellow cardigan to bring out the yellow floral accents in the dress. The nude envelope clutch has gold accents and matches the flats perfectly. Lastly, I added a gold floral stud and emerald stone ring. I like the touch the ring adds because it doesn’t actually match anything here. Everything else in my look matches well, so this offsets that a bit so it’s not too much.
What do you think of ankle strap flats? Would you wear them?
