How-To Style Guide: Another Hint of Neon
Another Hint of Neon by theclosetbychristie featuring pointy-toe pumps
A few weeks ago, I wrote the A Hint of Neon post. We went over why every woman should have a neon piece in her closet and how all ages can enjoy the trend. Today I’ve decided to expand on the topic a bit and show women how to wear this trend, as bright colors can be intimidating to many individuals, particularly when we’re talking about work attire. Here’s my How-To Neon Style Guide!
1 Choose an Accessory to “Pop:” While neon can be fun for a younger person to wear loudly, it may not work for a thirty, forty, fifty-something. The key is to choose an accessory, like a shoe or jewelry, for the “pop” of color. It’s a way of having fun with the trend without it becoming too much. In the above look, I used a neon yellow Kate Spade heel, decorative bangle, and studs for my accent pieces.
2 Pair it with Neutrals: So, you’ve mustered up the strength to try a “pop” of color but what can you wear it with? I recommend sticking with neutral colors. This creates a more subdued look and gives the color a chance to really “pop.” In the above set, I styled with navy blue and heather gray. These are your typical neutral “business” colors. By keeping the rest of this look strictly business, it implies professional despite the bold neon accents.
3 Control The Emphasis: If you’re someone that embraces bold, you may want to try a main neon piece- such as a top, jacket, or jeans. I personally love a neon collared button-up; it adds a modern twist to a classic silhouette. This is the best opportunity to control what parts of your body you are emphasizing and really dress for your body type. If you have long, gorgeous legs- then try a bright colored skinny jean for your color “pop.” If you wear all neutrals with that, it will draw the eyes to your gorgeous legs.
If you follow the tips above, you can never go wrong while wearing the neon trend! What do you think of these how-to tips? Would you give neon a chance?
