Trend Watch: Laser Cut Fashion
Laser Cut Dress by theclosetbychristie featuring leather handbags
Laser cutting is a technology that allows us to cut materials using a laser controlled by a computer. The laser cuts, burns, or vaporizes away the material it’s directed at. It is powerful enough to cut a variety of materials, such as textiles, metal, and even steel. The technology has been used by other industries since 1965, but is just reaching popularity in the fashion industry now (Source: Wikipedia). Why is this important, you ask? Well, laser cutting allows us to cut intricate designs in the most precise manner, giving it a detailed and unique look.
In the above set, I featured a metallic gunmetal and periwinkle Carven laser cut dress. This is a particularly beautiful dress because of the exquisite detail. It’s built like an ordinary satin dress cinched at the waist, but it is the periwinkle laser cut lace overlay that gives it a unique look. I paired the dress with a peach waterfall cropped blazer. I love how these colors work together! I accessorized with a light grey Victoria Beckham mini tote and nude Cole Haan ballet flats. These accents match nicely with our color palette and they’re by two of my absolute favorite designers! For jewelry, I chose a TOPSHOP mixed metal stone flower necklace, a Banana Republic caged leather bracelet, and gunmetal rhinestone stud earrings.
Do you like the laser cutting technique? How would you style it?
