3 Tips for Styling a Leather Skirt for the Office

how-to-style-a-leather-skirt-for-the-office, can-you-wear-a-leather-skirt-to-work, what-top-can-i-wear-with-a-leather-skirt, how-to-wear-a-leather-skirt-casually, banana-republic-no-iron-top, merona-plaid-blazer-target, lc-lauren-conrad-leather-flared-skirt, vera-wang-ankle-boots

So you’re embracing the fabulous faux leather skirt trend, but can you really wear that to the office? Leather is commonly seen as a sexy, cool fabric. That being said, it can absolutely be worn to the office but proceed with caution when styling. Like I always say, it’s all in the way you style it!
1- The silhouette is everything.
That’s right! When styling a leather skirt for the office, think ‘flared!’ Although the pencil skirt is a classic office silhouette, you may want to leave your leather pencil skirt in the closet. This is simply because a pencil skirt tends to be fitted, so it’s best not to pair that with what we consider a ‘sexy fabric.’
2- Change up the color.
Leather anything is typically black. Try styling a dark brown leather skirt- or even a burgundy skirt like I did! These colors may seem a bit more innocent.
3- Keep the rest classic office style.
Any time you take a chance with your office attire, it’s important to keep the rest of your look very professional… maybe even more professional than you would normally dress. This will balance out the piece in question! In my look above, I paired my leather skirt with a navy oxford top and plaid blazer. I have also worn this skirt with a nude turtleneck and black blazer.

These are the top 3 must-know tips before styling a leather skirt for the office! Of course, these rules may vary depending on the type of office you work in. This guide is pretty conservative, so hopefully this will apply to the majority. If you have questions, leave a comment!

I last spoke about this LC Lauren Conrad faux leather skirt in ‘wine’ in my Save or Splurge piece back in September (see previous post: Save or Splurge: Wine Leather Skirt). I’ve worn it a few times, but finally got around to photographing it!

Absolutely, girlie! Thank you for checking out my blog too, Ashley! Ah, skirts and dresses are basically all I wear! I used to forget about them during the winter too, but I've more recently found that tights can be surprisingly warm. The knit ones are the best for that! Those and ankle booties- never fails!

Ok, now these tips rock. It's one thing to style an item for regular wear, but work is a whole different story. You totally articulated it. Changing up the color is a great way to spice it up. :] // ▲ itsCarmen.com ▲
