Trend Alert: What Is A Bralette & How To Wear It
Who has heard of a ‘bralette?’ I hadn’t until recently but now- and seemingly all of a sudden- every brand is hopping on the bandwagon and carrying these! So what exactly is it? It’s basically a bra with decorative detailing and straps, which is meant for layering. Last Friday, I featured one from Express in my ‘Friday Favorites‘ top 5 collection.
Most of these bralettes have many straps on the back or racerbacks and are most commonly layered with loose, draped tanks. But new trends often leave us with more questions, so today we’re learning all about the bralette! Read on to find out how to wear it and its functionality!
Here I’m wearing this adorable LC Lauren Conrad floral dress. I absolutely love Lauren Conrad and her line at Kohl’s is consistently fabulous! My favorite are her dresses because they have all of my favorite elements: feminine, flattering, and comfortable. This summer dress is made of a soft cotton material, so it’s ideal for a summer day but can also be dressed up for the office or a summer occasion. It really fits like a glove!
How To Wear A Bralette
When deciding what to pair it with, keep in mind that it’s meant to be seen. It kind of goes against our normal thought process behind choosing intimates but believe me, you’ll want to flaunt yours!
When A Regular Bra Is Tough To Hide
When you can’t disguise it, hide it in plain sight! Some summer tops have straps that are really difficult to work with. Spaghetti straps, halters, racerback, strapless, and even off-the-shoulder tops are all tops that I typically avoid for this very reason. I really don’t like strapless bras, so a bralette is the perfect fix for this!
To Enhance A Simple Look
That’s right- like an accessory, a bralette is a great accent to enhance a minimalistic look! If you’re wearing a casual graphic tank, a strappy bralette is the perfect piece to add some style to your look. If you’re wearing a pretty summer dress, a lace bralette is a fabulous way to add even more femininity to your look.
To Layer Under A Sheer or Light Fabric
It’s the perfect solution to sheer or light fabrics! This Free People bralette I’m wearing is my very first one. I had purchased a cream colored slip dress and a pretty sheer lace tank from Free People, so I really got this to layer under these pieces. It’s a great alternative to a cami if you’re looking to add a little more style to your look!
EXTRA TIP:
Remember, just because this piece is considered an ‘intimate’ doesn’t mean you have to bare it all. Add this under a dress with a low back or a simple tank with a racerback and it can actually make your look even more conservative!
Is It Functional?
I was hesitant to buy this because I didn’t know how supportive it would really be, but the online reviews are what sold me on it! Women that are size d’s were raving about how great it was, so I figured it would be just fine for me. It’s super comfortable, offers support, and is surprisingly versatile. Now that I have it, I’m literally finding about a million ways to wear it!

So all of this being said, I decided to pair the bralette with this floral dress to add an extra- and maybe unexpected- element to an already fabulous piece. The dress already has a cute crisscross and cut-out design on the back, so this lace racerback bralette adds even more fun to the back! It’s the perfect feminine accent!

I love them. I get so tired of trying to hide bra straps in the summer, and I really don't like strap less bras because they are so uncomfortable and I'm constantly tugging them back up. I am just having a hard time finding them in the stores. I only bought a black one so far, but I'd love to try a white one.
I have yet to try to a bralette out yet. I hope you have a great week.

Something About That
Hmm . . . interesting. I've never heard of it. Right off the top, I'd say no I wouldn't wear it. I wear a larger cup size and I wonder if it would be supportive enough (although you mentioned d sizes). It's very cute on you however, you look gorgeous in your dress!
I LOVE your floral dress, you look stunning!
