1 Simple Fix To Being The Master of Layering A High-Low Hem
Who’s not ready for the summer to be over just yet? I’m right with you on that! I’ve been spending as much time outside as possible, soaking up rays on the beach and driving with my convertible top down constantly. So although I did my summer recap last week (see previous post: The Best of Summer 2015), I figured we could hold onto this season for just a bit longer with a bonus post! Woo-hoo!
For this look, I’m having some fun with my Free People Parisian Slip Dress by layering it under one of my favorite summer dresses. Read on to find out all about it!
Plus, we have a few cool things to show you after the post. We’re asking you to vote on our Best of Summer 2015 poll and take the tour of our new layout!
This particular slip dress has a beautiful high-low hem. I love it because it gives it that ruffled look, which I think would be pretty layered under anything. But because of that high-low hem, it’s a little tricky to accomplish this without it looking weird. And let’s be real, how many high-low dresses do you really have? Maybe one or two, plus it needs to be the right length to layer naturally. Ugh! This is easier said than done.
Well, here’s a solution for you and all you need is one thing!
A belt! That’s right- for this look I simply added a belt and tugged up the material from the front of the overlay dress to give it that high-low appearance. It’s not as dramatic as the slip, but I think it still works. For the belt, I chose a thin braided belt but it would probably be even easier with a thick belt. In that case, you can literally trap the additional fabric behind the belt instead of bunching it up over the top like I did here.

Fun idea to layer the two dresses! High-low dresses can be really tricky to style! I only own one and I rarely wear it because of that! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
