Who else is loving the sleeveless trench coat trend? I had been wanting a sleeveless trench for a while but had a tough time finding one! Until recently, I couldn’t find what I envisioned anywhere. It’s moments like that where I wish I had sewing skills so I could just design it! Ever have a moment like that? My vision was a classic color and style, knee-length, and of course sleeveless. I didn’t end up finding the exact one at my price point but when I saw this Banana Republic sleeveless trench I couldn’t resist! It’s similar to what I had in mind; it’s just shorter in length.
So the hunt was over and I got my sleeveless trench, but then I wondered ‘how am I going to style this?’ I was surprised at how versatile it turned out to be! Read on for my tips on how to wear this trend, how to transition it through the seasons, and a special ‘behind the scenes’ look at my photo shoot for this post.
As fabulous as the sleeveless trench is, how exactly can you rock this trend? Is this a one trick pony or can you wear it often? And most importantly, is it versatile? Yes and yes!
Wear It Open
Treat it like a vest and wear it open! I wore my sleeveless trench over my Ralph Lauren gingham empire waist baby doll dress. It’s a loose fitting dress, so leaving the trench open adds more fluidity to my look.
Wear It Buttoned
Why not go traditional and wear it buttoned? It would look fabulous paired with skinny jeans and pumps! Or take it into the fall season by pairing it with a long sleeve tunic, leggings, and knee-high boots.
Wear It Belted
As many of you have pointed out, I sure like to belt things! I have a ton of really cute and fun belts, so I add them to my ensembles every chance I get. Because this particular trench is short, it would look best with a thin belt. A longline trench would look great with a thicker belt!
Take It With You Through Every Season
That’s right! Because this trench is sleeveless, it makes it THE perfect layering piece. Wear it over a pretty floral dress for the summer and spring. Try it with a pair of shorts when it’s humid! Wear it with your favorite long-sleeve top, skinnies, and thigh-high boots for the winter and fall. The options for this fabulous piece are endless!
THE LOOK
Behind The Scenes
Isn’t this place amazing? It’s a local horticulture park and I’ve been hanging around there a lot lately. Behind me is the rose garden, but there’s also a ton of unique trees, rocks, and other flowers. I always feel like an explorer when I’m there! On this particular day, it was due to rain soon so the park was empty but there’s typically sporadic groups of people around. It was almost a relief that there was no one at the park because I could get this shoot done quickly, but at the same time it was pretty creepy being the only one there. Be careful what you wish for!
How would you style a sleeveless trench? I’d love to see how you wear this trend. Post your sleeveless trench photo on Instagram and tag me!

I've been loving the sleeveless trench, too! I'm looking for one that's maxi and a deeper color, but this one's just as gorgeous. Wearing it open is perhaps how I would style the piece!
