THE Ultimate Layering Piece + $500 Nordstrom Giveaway
One trend that seems to be making its way back in style- and happens to make THE best layering piece- are slip dresses! But hey, isn’t that an intimate? For those that are a little more conservative- like myself- that doesn’t even sound like an option! How could I possibly feel comfortable in that? That’s exactly what I would have been saying a few weeks ago. But recently, I had a change of perspective.
As I began to explain above, I previously would not have been caught dead in a slip dress. A classic slip dress is not only kind of flimsy but it’s really designed for a tall, slim body type. Although I may wish for that silhouette, that’s not me! So, why write about this then? Well, with the re-emergence of slip dresses comes a new perspective on the trend. Slip dresses are no longer just a shapeless dress; they’re now coming in many different colors and styles. Stores such as Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and Free People are now coming out with slip dresses that have a more bohemian vibe.
The best part is the detailing! Embroidery, ruffles, and a high-low hem are some common elements to the newly evolved slip dress.
Slip Dresses, The Ultimate Layering Piece?
This
boho-styled slip dress is THE perfect canvas for layering! While it
works well on its own, I have found that it’s such an easy piece to
layer. This really makes the styling possibilities endless, which in
turn makes it an incredibly versatile piece to have in your wardrobe.
my look here, for example. This Free People Parisian slip dress comes
in many colors, but I chose ‘french vanilla.’ This color keeps it true
to the boho-style and I feel that it makes it even more versatile. While
I would definitely wear this dress on its own, I decided to play with
layers and wear the Free People lace cami over it to add yet another
dimension of ruffles. Remember this cami from a few week’s ago (The Guide To Necklace Lengths & Layering)?
Because of the coloring and similar styles, it literally looks like it’s
part of the dress. I belted it because I really was looking for an
excuse to wear this thick, brown belt but the look would also work just
fine without it.
Behind The Scenes
wonder where my outfit inspiration comes from? Most of my inspiration
comes from within, but I also take what’s around me into account. I
often find inspiration from my favorite television shows, movies, other
bloggers, and celebrities. Here’s the behind the scenes for this look!
exact Free People Parisian slip dress was featured on Pretty Little
Liars. I actually had no idea it was considered a ‘slip dress’ because
it was styled so fabulously. Mandi Line, the costumer designer for the
show, had styled the look for Spencer and layers were the key. She wore a
layer under the slip, awesome boots, and a cargo-style jacket. It
opened my eyes up to new possibilities!

Hi Christie!
Thanks so much for stopping by. I love the dress you're wearing.
I'm sorry I didn't mention where I got the cargo jacket. I completely forgot to add that. I got it from an online boutique called Pink Blush but it was last fall and they don't have it anymore. I linked to a few other jackets in my post, if you wanted to check them out.
Have a nice week!
The detailing on this dress is so amazing! Simple, yet so stunning! Thanks for hosting the great giveaway, too!
