3 Questions To Help You Choose The Perfect Holiday Look
It’s almost Christmas! Last week, we talked about how to be chic and comfortable for the holiday (see previous post: How To Wear Loungewear on Christmas Without the Frump). But what should we wear for a party that’s a little more fancy? Or what about those of us that would just love an excuse to doll up? We have a look for you, too!
It’s tough to pick out the perfect look and it’s even harder when you’re faced with pressure, like a holiday that only comes once a year. Here’s a few questions to use as a guideline for choosing a fabulous outfit for any holiday gathering!
3 Questions To Help You Choose The Perfect Holiday Look
TRADITIONAL OR UNCONVENTIONAL?
The first step you should take is to decide whether you want to go with a traditional holiday look or an unconventional one. That’s an important question to ask yourself when choosing an outfit because it will help determine the color palette and style of your look. For a traditional look, choose red or green. For an unconventional look, choose something snazzy like silver or gold.
IS IT FAMILY FRIENDLY?
It is a family occasion, so you want to make sure your look is family friendly. Will there be children at your event? Make sure to choose an outfit that’s both appropriate and comfortable. Be mindful of tight skirts or low-cut tops that you’ll be adjusting all day.
WILL IT PHOTOGRAPH WELL?
Christmas, or any holiday gathering, is often well documented! At least in my family, we always take a ton of pictures on Christmas over any other holiday. So naturally, you want to make sure you’re picture ready! Here’s a few guidelines to help you get it right-
1- Choose a color that flatters you
Everyone has ‘their color!’ There are certain colors that might look better with your features than others. Red is a color that flatters everyone because of the way our brains process attraction (seriously, it’s a psychology thing), so that’s always a safe bet. I personally love shades of red and purple, but I also like greens and blues because it brings out the color of my eyes.
2- Be careful with thin sweaters
A sweater is a great thing to wear on a holiday, but ladies- proceed with caution! All sweaters are different; some fabrics are even thin or have a design of tiny holes. These types of sweaters can appear see-through in a photo even if it doesn’t in the mirror or in person. While a camera’s flash can be flattering, it is a nightmare when it comes to these types of sweaters.

BEHIND THE SCENES
This was a great shoot day! It was uncharacteristically warm. It’s December and it was almost 70 degrees, which is unheard of here! I was expecting clouds (thanks, iPhone) but it ended up being kind of overcast. I’ve heard that’s a good time to take photos but I don’t like that harsh bright light. I wandered down this little trail to escape the sun and ended up walking into a decent scene. What do you guys think?

Great tips Christie, especially the "Does it Photograph well," as I sometimes forget that. I think picking out something to be comfortable in is key as well (like no dresses or skirts that will ride up or too tight). You look gorgeous here and Happy New Year!
