Style Dare: How To Wear Navy & Color Palette Guide
Navy is the new black! It’s such a classic, preppy color and I just love it. But for years, I limited the amount of navy I had in my wardrobe because I wasn’t 100% sure how to style it. I still find this a difficult color to work with and it usually requires a little bit of planning but it’s really worth the extra effort to make it work. I’m definitely not the only one out there with hesitation over this color- and let me just say that the struggle is real– because this topic came in the form of a Style Dare. Let’s figure this one out together!
I Dare You…
Arianna from Illinois asked:
“I never know what to wear with navy! I dare you to give it a try. Can you post tips like you do in your style guides?”
Believe it or not, there are a lot of colors that work well with navy! No matter your style, there’s definitely a color palette that will keep you true to your own style and able to rock navy like a pro.
PASTELS
Light pastels like blush and serenity are perfectly paired with navy. These colors will give your look a feminine and romantic style.
BRIGHTS
Who doesn’t love a bright color? Brights work really well with navy, especially magenta and yellow. These colors will give your look a fun, trendy style.
ACADEMIC
Deep hues associated with fall collegiate styles- like hunter green, burgundy, and mustard- are flawless with navy. You can never go wrong with any of these colors! These colors will give your look a preppy style.
NEUTRALS
Neutral colors like white, beige, and cognac are so classic and elegant when paired with navy. These colors will give your look a chic and timeless style.
MIX & MATCH
For
my look here, I kind of mixed and matched colors to complete my look. I
went for a monochrome style with pops of bright and pastel pinks. I’m
wearing deep blue denim jeans with my blue suede heeled combat boots.
This blue-on-blue combo really elongates my legs! I’m wearing a dark
navy blouse with a deep blue ruffled cardigan. My clutch is a metallic
blush, my lips are a bright magenta, and my blouse has pops of both
magenta and blush to tie it all in.

I really need to start wearing more navy! I just have a hard time putting an outfit together, because I find I always want to add something black and it seems to clash when I try that. The florals look great with navy though!
