Style Dare: How To Add Variety To Your Wardrobe
Have you ever seen an accessory that you love but is so not you? The best part about accessories is that they allow us to play with our style without necessarily having to commit to it. It’s just a teeny tiny accent compared to the rest of your look, so it can blend pretty easily. It’s not the focal point so it’s the perfect way to ‘test drive’ new styles that you’re not sure about. That brings us to our next Style Dare!
I Dare You…
Leah from Nevada asked:
“I want to change my style up but I don’t know where to start! How can I add variety without changing who I am?”
Fashion in many ways is like playing dress-up for adults! You can try out different styles, express who you are, or show a new side of yourself. You can even borrow a personality for the night by wearing something completely out of character! The options are endless when it comes to fashion because there are so many different styles out there and you can mix and match them however you like.
Where To Begin…
It’s fun to change up your style every now and then. Sometimes I see something and I think, ‘wow that’s totally different for me but there’s something about it that I just love!’ Why pass up something I’m into just because it’s not something I would ordinarily wear? If you’re not as bold when it comes to your style, a good place to start is with your accessories.
BRIGHT COLORS & BOLD PRINTS
Brights and prints aren’t exactly obscure but if it’s not your style, it can seem a bit daunting. A good place to start is with a neutral palette. In this look, I’m wearing a simple black tee with black skinny trousers. It doesn’t get more basic than that, huh?
I then added a bright green crossbody, a printed vest, and windowpane flats. All of these accessories have classic silhouettes, so they are easy to incorporate into a look.
FUNKY JEWELRY
I love jewelry and this is the best place to play around with different styles. If you’re out and decide that you’re actually not feeling it, you can just take it off! Plus, it’s much less noticeable than your typical accessory. It’s merely an accent; certainly not defining your style here.
For this look, I’m wearing this House of Harlow Turkana Ring and a scrabble letter pendant necklace from Etsy. Both of these are very unique pieces but they’re also wonderful conversation starters. Try wearing a ring like this one to a networking event! I’ve had my eye on it for months and finally got it (see previous post: Friday Favorites).
And most importantly…
wear it with confidence! That’s really the key here. If you flaunt it, you can wear anything.

I love your tips here Christie and very well put. I think I did the unexpected recently with wearing a shirt dress and crop top, but it is all about wearing it with confidence and adding accessories to them.
