How To Layer Clothes For Winter
Layering is an essential skill when it comes to fashion. It’s the key to maximizing your closet. It’s the answer for making a single piece look different every time you wear it. But this is all easier said than done. Layering is hard! It can be difficult to see a certain piece differently and it’s even more difficult to decide what pieces are good for layering together. Sometimes I look into my closet and think ‘this and that’ but then I try it on and it doesn’t look quite how I imagined. Today, I’m going to show you what I’ve learned about layering. Here’s How To Layer Clothes For Winter!

How To Layer Clothes For Winter
The art to layering winter clothes isn’t an obvious one. If you keep these 4 things in mind, you’re well on your way to mastering this skill.
SIMPLE COLOR PALETTE
Minimalism is key when it comes to the color palette for your layered outfit. For this look, I’m wearing all black with plum tights. This is a great way to incorporate fun, colored or textured tights! By sticking with black pieces, it adds a sense of cohesiveness to my look. I can’t tell you how many people have said ‘cute dress’ when I wear this.
CREATE COHESIVENESS
That brings us to our next key point, which is to give the illusion of fluidity. Simply put, you really just want to create a look that appears to consist of fewer pieces than it is. You want your look to flow and seem like one solid look; not just a bunch of pieces that you threw together.
PLAY WITH TEXTURES
That being said, feel free to have fun with your look and play with textures. While I’m suggesting to stick with a simple color palette, you can differentiate the pieces by incorporating different fabrics. For my look, I’m wearing leather boots, a lace skirt, a silky blouse, and a thin knit cardigan. If you glance at it quick, it might look like one dress but if you really look at it, these textures will help set the pieces apart.
PULL IT TOGETHER WITH A BELT
The biggest challenge here is to make sure your look is flattering. Who wants to wear a bunch of layers if they just make you look bulky? Not me! The best way to ensure your look is flattering is to pull it all together with a belt. The belt will create a waist that your layers may be hiding. If styled correctly, it will make you look thinner!
